Who We Are Looking For

We seek a professional, motivated and detail-oriented Accountant to strengthen our financial records, support audit readiness, ensure complete documentation of all transactions, and assist in maintaining a compliant tax position under Ugandan tax laws. Experience in project-based and grant-related accounting is essential. A positive attitude and strong problem-solving skills will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Record and book all financial transactions accurately in the accounting system.
• Complete and organise source documentation for all transactions and close documentation gaps.
• Undertake project accounting and cost tracking across multiple health projects.
• Support tax compliance and accurate computation of taxable income in line with applicable laws.
• Assist with internal and external audit preparation, responses to auditor queries, and the development and strengthening of financial controls and internal control systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance/Commerce
• 3–5 years relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax laws & URA compliance
• Multi-project financial management experience
• Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills
• High integrity and professional neutrality

Other Requirements:

• CPA or ACCA (completed or at advanced stage)
• Data Analysis acumen
• Problem Solving skills

About the Project

A-BRAIN has been awarded a 2-year grant to introduce SLET4TB (Sign Language Enabled Technology for TB Care in Uganda), with support from Deutsche Lepra- und Tuberkulosehilfe (DAHW). The project introduces Si-CON, an AI enabled sign language communication app, at TB testing sites in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono, so that Deaf and hard-of-hearing people can communicate with health workers and access TB services on equal terms. A-BRAIN seeks six (6) motivated Research Assistants to support field implementation and data collection for the project.

Terms of Engagement

Research Assistants will be engaged on a per field day basis at A-BRAIN’s approved rate. The number of field days will depend on the project field schedule. This is not a full-time salaried position.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, screen and recruit study participants at project sites in line with the approved study protocol.
• Obtain informed consent in accessible formats, working with USL interpreters and using visual and written materials.
• Support participants and health workers in using the Si-CON app, and document how it is used in practice.
• Administer questionnaires and support interviews and focus group discussions, with USL interpreters where needed.
• Collect data accurately on tablets or other electronic tools, and sync and back up data daily.
• Check data for completeness and accuracy, and resolve data queries promptly.
• Promptly report protocol deviations, adverse events and field challenges to the supervisor.
• Prepare and submit daily or weekly field activity reports.
• Maintain study documentation, participant logs and site files, and protect participant confidentiality at all times.
• Support community engagement and sensitisation activities with Deaf associations and health facilities.
• Perform any other project-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a health, social science, statistics or related field.
• At least one (1) year of experience in research, data collection or community health work.
• Willingness to work closely with Ugandan Sign Language (USL) interpreters.
• Good computer and tablet skills.
• Fluency in English; ability to communicate in Luganda is desirable.
• Availability to work across sites in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono.

Added Advantage:

• Knowledge of Ugandan Sign Language (USL)
• Valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) or Human Subjects Protection certificate.
• Experience with electronic data collection tools such as ODK, KoBoToolbox or REDCap.
• Previous work with Deaf communities, persons with disabilities, or TB programmes.
